GIANT Fundraiser: Bags 4 My Cause
The Hazleton Area Public Library was selected as the May 2019 beneficiary of the GIANT Food Stores Bags 4 My Cause program by store leadership at the Hazleton GIANT store. The GIANT Bags 4 My Cause Program, which launched in March 2019, is a reusable bag program that facilitates community support with the goal of making a difference in the communities where shoppers live and work. The library will receive a $1 donation every time the reusable Bags 4 My Cause Bag is purchased at this location during May, unless otherwise directed by the customer through the Giving Tag attached to the bag.
Writing Workshop Adults & Teens 16 +
We all have a story to tell - start writing yours now. This monthly workshop, happening Saturday, May 18 at 1:00 focuses on generating new material in a supportive environment. Prompts will be provided, but feel free to write anything you want. Participants are invited to read their writing aloud; share as much or little as you want. Feedback and comments concentrate on what is strong and good about the work. All genres-fiction, poetry, memoir, etc.- and any experience level welcome; even if you don't consider yourself a writer. The workshop takes place in the Community Room; use the Green Street entrance. Registration is required, and can be done at the Reference desk or by calling 570-454-2961. The deadline for registration is May 16.
Join us Wednesday, May 29 at 6:00 for some decoupage. Attendees will be making natural pine coasters. Supplies will be provided but feel free to bring any magazine clippings, newspaper articles and decorative paper to add to your creation. This can get a little messy, so wear something comfortable to class. No previous experience is needed. We will meet in the Community Room. Please use the Green Street entrance. A.G. Shraud Book Discussion/Signing
The Hazleton Area Public Library will host a program with local author A. G. Shraud on Thursday, May 30 from 6:00-8:00 in the Community Room (Green Street entrance).
In her book titled Believe, A.G. Shraud reveals how she maintained her confidence and her determination when faced with obstacles. Daily journaling allowed her to hold in her mind the encouraging truths that drove her success. Registration is required for this program, and may be made by visiting or calling the library reference desk at 570-454-2961.
Grow With Google: Digital Skills Workshop
The Hazleton Area Public Library will be hosting a Digital Skills Program Series for startups & established small business owners. The series will begin Wednesday June 5 at 6:00. This program will serve as an introductory event, allowing attendees to learn more about the full suite of digital, educational tools available to them through Google.Registration is required as space is limited, and can be placed by visiting, calling us at 570-454-2961, or filling out our online registration form for the event. Students in grades 4-8 are invited to join us for our next STEAM program tonight from 6:00-7:00. This month we will explore what is behind zoetrope animation. We will create our own animation sequence and see it come to life! We’ll also see how our eyes use light to perceive 2D objects in motion. Registration is required. Explore, Discover, Create: Ancient Egypt
Students in grades 2-6 are invited to join us for a four part series in which we explore Ancient Egypt. Each week, using hands-on activities, we’ll learn something new about the Ancient Egyptians, such as mythology, pyramids, and mummies. The series takes place Wednesday evenings from 6:00-7:00 beginning Wednesday, May 1 and ending May 22. This is an exciting pilot program that the Commonwealth Libraries, the office of the State Library of Pennsylvania, has invited the Hazleton library to join in. Registration is required. The Children’s Department of the library is now seeking youth volunteers between the ages of 14 and 17 who are interested in helping with the Summer Quest Program. Volunteers are scheduled for two hours per week over the course of the summer. Teens interested in volunteering should visit the Children’s Department to pick-up an application.
