Souper Bowl Canned Food Drive
The Hazleton Area Public Library is collecting canned goods for our first - ever Souper Bowl canned food drive, benefiting Catholic Social Services - Hazleton. Our main goal is to collect canned soup, but all canned goods will be accepted. Drop off locations include the main library and all four branches. Donations will be accepted until Saturday, February 8. For questions, visit or call the library at 570-454-2961.
The library serves as a distribution point for some federal and state income tax forms. We expect to have forms available early February for distribution. Be sure to call before stopping by to check availability.
Blind Date With A Book
Love is in the air. It’s that time of year again. For the entire month of February; the Hazleton Area Public Library will be hosting a "Blind Date with a Book" program. Starting February 1, blind dates can be found on the main floor of the library. Visit or call to learn more about the program.
Due to increased demand, the library will host two drop in, tech-time tutoring sessions in February. The first will be held Wednesday, Feb 5 from 6:00-7:00. The second will be held Tuesday, February 18 from 10:00-11:00. One of our knowledgeable staff members will be available downstairs in the reference department, ready to answer your questions.These programs are free and open to the public. We all have a story to tell. Start writing yours now. Join us Saturday, February 8 at 1:00 for our monthly workshop, focusing on generating new material in a supportive environment. Prompts will be provided, but feel free to write anything you want. Participants are invited to read their writing aloud; share as much or little as you want. Feedback and comments concentrate on what is strong and good about the work. All genres-fiction, poetry, memoir, etc.- and any experience level welcome; even if you don't consider yourself a writer. Winter Toddler and Preschool Storytimes begin Wednesday, January 15 and will last for six weeks. Toddler Storytime, for children currently ages 2 and 3, is on Wednesdays at 11:00. Toddlers must be accompanied by an adult caregiver. Preschool Storytime, for children ages 4-5, is on Wednesdays at 6:00 Preschool Storytime incorporates many facets of early learning and school readiness. Explorer Club: Knights and Castles
Explorer Club is for students in grades 3-6. Each month we explore a different topic with hands-on activities and games. Our next program takes place on Tuesday, February 4 from 6:00-7:00, and we will be exploring the world of knights and castles. STEAM: Tools and Our Brains
On Monday, February 10 from 6:00-7:00, we will briefly discuss how humans learned to develop tools in order to survive, as well as, other species that use tools. In addition we will also talk about how human tool making differs from the tools animals use. Finally we will spend the rest of the program creating tools out of everyday household items to complete challenges. Babies, Rhythm, and Rhymes!
On Saturday, February 8 at 10:00, begin your child’s love of music, rhymes, and books as we dance, sing, and read together. This program is for children from birth to 3 years old. On Monday, February 17 from 6:00-7:00, children in grades K-2 will be reading stories and doing activities to learn about different themes and enhance their literacy and social skills. Teen Time: Life Size Board Games
