Health Insurance Q&A and Sign-Up

The Hazleton Area Public Library will be holding a health insurance open-enrollment education session on Wednesday, August 28 at 4:00 in the Community Room of the library (Green Street entrance). Staff from the PA Insurance Department will be present to aid those looking to learn more about marketplace insurance options. Marketplace navigators will be present to help attendees sign-up for insurance. This FREE program is open to the public. Registration required, visit or call the library at 570-454-2961.

Tech-Time
The library will be hosting a drop in, tech-time tutoring session on Wednesday, September 4 from 6:00-7:00. One of our knowledgeable staff members will be available downstairs in the reference department, ready to answer your questions.This program is free and open to the public. Please bring any mobile devices you have questions about with you. No reservations are required as this is a drop in event. Writing Workshop
We all have a story to tell; start writing yours now. This monthly workshop focuses on generating new material in a supportive environment. Prompts will be provided, but feel free to write anything you want. Participants are invited to read their writing aloud; share as much or little as you want. Feedback and comments concentrate on what is strong and good about the work. All genres-fiction, poetry, memoir, etc.- and any experience level welcome; even if you don't consider yourself a writer. This workshop takes place Saturday, September 7 at 1:00 in the Community Room (use Green Street entrance). Registration is required, and can be done at the Reference desk or by calling 570-454-2961. The deadline for registration is Thursday, September 5.

Computer 101
The library will be having a Computer 101 program on Tuesday, September 10 at 10:00. This program is for adults, those with little to no computer skills who would like to learn more about computers. Topics of instruction will include using a mouse and keyboard, searching the internet, and writing a letter using a word processor. This program will be held in the reference department of the library. Registrations are required as space is limited. Registrations can be made by calling the library's reference department at 570-454-2961. The last day to register is Monday, August 22. Ask for Jeff if there are any other questions about the program.

Family Film Night
The Hazleton Area Public Library will be hosting a family film night Wednesday, September. 11 at 6:00 in the Community Room of the library (Green Street entrance). Popcorn and refreshments will be provided. If interested, visit or call the library for the title of the film. Registration is required, visit or call the library at 570-454-2961 to register.

Lap-sit Baby and Me
Begin your baby’s love of learning with stories, fingerplays, lap bounces, and songs. This program is for adults and their babies ages birth to 23 months, and we meet once a month. Older siblings may join, too. Our first program takes place Saturday, September 7 from 10:00-10:45. Registration begins Tuesday, September 3, and can be done by contacting the library’s Children’s Department at 570-454-2961.

Family Storytime
On Saturday, September 14 from 10:00-10:45, we invite families to join us for stories and activities that will help you bond as a family while improving reading and social skills. Registration is required, and can be done by contacting the library’s Children’s Department at 570-454-2961. Registration begins Tuesday, September 3.

Fall Storytime
Fall Toddler and Preschool Storytimes begin Wednesday, September 25 and will last for six weeks. Toddler Storytime, for children currently ages 2 and 3, is on Wednesdays at 10:00.  Toddlers must be accompanied by an adult caregiver. Preschool Storytime, for children ages 4-5, is on Wednesdays at 6:00.  Preschool Storytime incorporates many facets of early learning and school readiness.  Registration is required, and can be made by contacting the library’s Children’s Department at 570-454-2961. Registration begins Monday, September 16.

Little Learners
This program is for children in kindergarten–2nd grade. The next program will take place Monday, September 30 from 6:00-7:00. Children will learn about different topics and concepts through stories, activities, playtime, and crafts.Registration is required and can be made by contacting the library's Children's Department at 570-454-2961. Registration begins Monday, September 16.

Explorer Club
This group meets once a month and is for students in grades 3-6. Each month we explore a different topic with hands-on activities and games. Our first program takes place on Tuesday, September 10 from 6:00-7:00, and we will be exploring the oceans. Registration is required, and can be done by contacting the library’s Children’s Department at 570-454-2961. Registration begins today.

STEAM: Slime
Students in grades 4-8 are invited to join us as we make slime on Monday, September 16. Registration is required, and can be done by contacting the library’s Children’s Department at 570-454-2961. Registration begins Tuesday, September 3.

Teen Time: Bad Art
Teens in grades 7-12 will have fun painting their own versions of famous works, and we’ll see who can do it the worst. The program takes place on Tuesday, September 24. Registration begins on Monday, September 9. Please contact the library’s children’s department at 570-454-2961 to sign up.

Adulting 101: Sewing
Join us on Thursday, September 19 from 6:00-7:00 to learn some simple sewing. The minimum age to attend is 14, and you must register by contacting the library’s Children’s Department at 570-454-2961. Registration begins Tuesday, September 3.
