GIANT Fundraiser: Bags 4 My Cause
The Hazleton Area Public Library was selected as the May 2019 beneficiary of the GIANT Food Stores Bags 4 My Cause program by store leadership at the Hazleton GIANT store. The GIANT Bags 4 My Cause Program, which launched in March 2019, is a reusable bag program that facilitates community support with the goal of making a difference in the communities where shoppers live and work. The library will receive a $1 donation every time the reusable Bags 4 My Cause Bag is purchased at this location during May, unless otherwise directed by the customer through the Giving Tag attached to the bag.
Join us Wednesday, May 29 at 6:00 for some decoupage. Attendees will be making natural pine coasters. Supplies will be provided but feel free to bring any magazine clippings, newspaper articles and decorative paper to add to your creation. This can get a little messy, so wear something comfortable to class. No previous experience is needed. We will meet in the Community Room. Please use the Green Street entrance. A.G. Shraud Book Discussion/Signing
The Hazleton Area Public Library will host a program with local author A. G. Shraud Thursday, May 30th from 6 - 8pm in the Community Room (Green Street entrance).
In her book titled Believe, A.G. Shraud reveals how she maintained her confidence and her determination when faced with obstacles. Daily journaling allowed her to hold in her mind the encouraging truths that drove her success. Registration is required for this program, and may be made by visiting or calling the library reference desk at 570-454-2961.
The library will be hosting a drop in, tech-time tutoring session on Tuesday, June 4 from 4:00-5:00. One of our knowledgeable staff members will be available downstairs in the reference department, ready to answer your questions. This program is free and open to the public. Grow With Google: Digital Skills Workshop
The Hazleton Area Public Library will be hosting a Digital Skills Program Series for the public as well as startups and established small business owners. The series will begin Wednesday June 5 at 6:00. The second program will occur Thursday, June 6 at 6:00 and the final program Wednesday, June 12, also at 6:00. These programs are free and open to the public and will serve as an introductory event, allowing attendees to learn more about the full suite of digital, educational tools available to them through Google. Registration is required as space is limited, and can be placed by visiting, or calling the library at 570-454-2961 The library will be giving away some wonderful prizes to attendees based upon program attendance. Attend all three programs for a better chance at winning any one of several prizes including tablets and Chromebook laptops!
The Children’s Department of the library is now seeking youth volunteers between the ages of 14 and 17 who are interested in helping with the Summer Quest Program. Volunteers are scheduled for two hours per week over the course of the summer. Teens interested in volunteering should visit the Children’s Department to pick-up an application. Summer Quest for Kids
Registration for the library’s Summer Quest Program will begin Monday, June 10 and continue throughout the summer. Summer Quest is a free program open to children who will be entering grades one through twelve in the fall who have their own library card. Summer Quest members will receive a calendar of weekly events and activities upon enrollment. The Hazleton Area Public Library will also host a Read-To- Me Summer Reading Program for Toddlers and Preschoolers. Read-To-Me members may use their parents’ library cards to participate. A calendar of weekly storytimes will be provided at registration. The Summer Quest Program will be offered at the main library and its branches. Children may enroll only at one location. A parent or legal guardian must be present to enroll the child. Members will be asked to perform educational activities to complete the Summer Quest. The activities range from reading and arts, to technology and experiences. Children who complete the Summer Quest program will be eligible to win prizes at the end of the summer.
