E.Z. Listening! Jazz
The Hazleton Area Public Library will be hosting local jazz trio E.Z. Listening! for an evening jazz concert. This program is free and open to the public and will take place this Wednesday, February 27th, at 6:00. Registration is required and can be made by visiting or calling the reference department of the library at 570-454-2961. Space is limited. The last day to register is Monday, February 25th. Refreshments will be provided. 

AIDS Activist Project
The Hazleton Area Public Library will be hosting local author, photographer, and activist Bill Bytsura for a book discussion and signing event. With his book titled The AIDS Activist Project, Bytsura set out to document the AIDS Activist movement beginning in 1988 through 1998. His book is a series of black and white portraits and written statements of AIDS Activists from around the world. Bytsura worked in Amsterdam, Paris, Berlin, Puerto Rico as well as many cities in the United States. Moved by the dedication and the struggle to understand and find a cure for AIDS by the group ACT UP, Bytsura set out to record the faces and names of AIDS activists. Well known activist like Anne-Christine d'Adesky, Larry Kramer, Moises Agosto and Mona Bennett are featured in this book. This program is free and open to the public. Bytsura will be at the library on Thursday, February 28th at 6:00 to discuss and sign copies of his book. Registration for this program is required, and can be made by visiting or calling the reference department at 570-454-2961. The last day to register is Tuesday, February 26th.  Snacks and light refreshments will be provided.

Tech-Time
Do you have questions about, or need help with your mobile technology? The library will be hosting a drop in, tech-time tutoring session on Wednesday, March 6th from 6:00-7:00. Bring your devices and one of our knowledgeable staff members will be available downstairs in the reference department, ready to answer your questions. This program is free and open to the public. No reservations are required as this is a drop in event. For any questions about the program, call the reference department of the library at 570-454-2961, and ask for Jeff.

Writing Workshop Adults & Teens 16 +
Join us at the Hazleton Area Public library on Saturday, March 9th at 1:00 for a workshop focused on generating new material in a positive and supportive environment. All genres-fiction, poetry, memoir, etc.- and any experience level welcome; even if you don't consider yourself a writer. Explore your creative side and receive helpful feedback. Responses focus on what is strong and good about the work. Prompts will be provided, but feel free to follow your own inspiration. Participants can read their work aloud and share as much or little as they want. The workshop takes place in the Community Room (Green Street entrance). Register at the Reference Desk or by calling 570-454-2961.

Mixed Media Painting Adults & Teens 16+
Join us Wednesday, March 13th for 6:00 for a mixed media painting class. Attendees will be exploring some basic techniques in watercolor and oil pastel. This is a great class for beginners. This program will take place in the Community Room (Green Street entrance). Registration is required. Please contact the library’s Reference Desk in person or by phone at 570-454-2961 to sign up. Space is limited. Last day to register is Monday, March 11th.

Saturday Family Storytime
In our Family Storytime, children ages 3 to 7, along with an adult, may join us as we read books, sing songs, and do some fun activities. Siblings may attend, too. The program will take place on Saturday, March 9th from 10:00-11:00. Registration is required, and begins today. Please call the library’s Children’s Department at 570-454-2961 to sign up.

Spring Storytime
Toddler Storytime, for children currently ages 2 and 3, is offered Wednesdays at 10:00. Toddlers must be accompanied by an adult caregiver. Preschool Storytime, for children ages 4-5, is offered Wednesdays at 6:00. Preschool Storytime incorporates many facets of early learning and school readiness. The first program takes place on Wednesday, March 20th, and will continue for six weeks. Registration is required, and can be made by contacting the library’s Children’s Department at 570-454-2961. Registration begins Monday, March 11th.

Little Learners
On Monday, March 18th, the library will be offering a program for children in Kindergarten- 3rd grade from 6:00-7:00. Children will learn about different topics and concepts through stories, activities, playtime, and crafts. Registration is required, and can be made by contacting the library’s Children’s Department at 570-454-2961. Registration begins today.

STEAM
In our STEAM program, children in grades 4-8 will experiment with different forms of science, technology, engineering, arts, and math with fun activities. Join us on Monday, March 11th from 6:00-7:00. This month we will use squishy circuits to learn about electrical circuits and conductivity. These concepts will be explored through homemade play dough. Come and try out this electrifying program.  Registration begins Monday, March 4th and is required.  Please contact the library’s Children’s Department at 570-454-2961 to sign up.

Teen Advisory Board
The Hazleton Area Public Library has some open spaces on our Teen Advisory Board. The board meets one Tuesday evening a month from 6:00-7:00. The board helps to plan future programs, brainstorm on how to reach out to the community, and give input on materials in the library’s Young Adult collection. Members will also have the opportunities to get volunteer hours. Board members must be high school students aged 14-18. Teens must complete an application in order to be considered for the board.
