Halloween
Library staff will be dressed up for Halloween this Wednesday. There will also be a bowl of candy at the front desk for any trick-or-treaters who stop by. HAPL hopes everyone has a happy and safe Halloween!

NaNoWriMo Write In #1
Come join us at the Hazleton Area Public Library as we celebrate National Novel Writing Month. If you're ready to write your story, we're here to keep you motivated. HAPL will be hosting two Write Ins for those of you daring enough to participate in this challenge. The first Write In being this Saturday, Nov 3rd from 1:00-2:30. Come ready to write, bring your laptop or a pen and pad. We will have snacks and refreshments available to refuel your body; writing exercises, prompts, and word-nerd books for creative inspiration. Register at the Reference desk or by calling 570-454-2961. Write Ins will take place in the Community Room, enter through the Green Street entrance. Keep in mind you can come write with us anytime during regular business hours, we have Wi-Fi and public computers.

Hazy Painters
Join us at the Hazleton Area Public Library for the first meeting of the Hazy Painters on Wednesday, November 7th at 5:30. We will be redesigning a book cover with paint on canvas. The program is free and open to the public, all ages are welcome. It will take place in the library’s Community Room (Green Street Entrance). Program attendees should enter through those doors. The chosen book for this month’s redesign is Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, by J.K. Rowling. Light refreshments and snacks will be provided. Registration for this program is required, and can be made by phoning the library’s reference department at 570-454-2961.

Tech-Time
Do you have questions about, or need help with your mobile technology? The library will be hosting a drop in, tech-time tutoring session on Thursday, November 8th from 6:00-7:00. One of our knowledgeable staff members will be available downstairs in the reference department, ready to answer your questions. This program is free and open to the public. No reservations are required as this is a drop in event. For any questions about the program, call the reference department of the library at 570-454-2961, and ask for Jeff.

Throwback Thursday Films
Beginning in November, the Hazleton Area Public Library will be screening a classic film, one Thursday evening, every month. The first film will be shown Thursday, November 15th at 6:00 in the Community Room (Green Street Entrance). Program attendees should enter through those doors. Registrations for the film programs are not required. In the event of bad weather, please look for closings, delays and program schedule changes on the library’s website, Facebook page, or call the library at 570-454-2961. Light refreshments and popcorn will be provided at every film program. Writing Workshop
Do you have a story to tell, a poem in your heart, or a message you'd like to share through the art of writing? Everyone is capable of being a writer, all that's required is putting pen to paper. All genres-fiction, poetry, memoir, etc. - and any experience level welcome; even if you don't consider yourself a writer. Workshops can be an encouraging place to explore your creativity and receive much needed support and feedback. The workshop will take place in the Community Room on Saturday November 17th, from 1:00-2:30. This program is intended for Adults and teens 16+. Stop in and register at the Reference desk or call 570-454-2961. Pen and paper will be available if needed, just bring yourself and your imagination.

Lap-sit Baby and Me
The next Lap-sit Program will take place on Thursday, November 1st at 10:30. The program is for children ages 6 months to 23 months. It involves stories, fingerplays, lap bounces, and songs. Registration is required, and can be made by contacting the library’s Children’s Department at 570-454-2961. Registration begins today.

Little Learners
Tonight, Monday, October 29th, the library will be offering a program for children in Kindergarten- 3rd grade from 6:00-7:00. Children will learn about different topics and concepts through stories, activities, playtime, and crafts. Registration is required, and can be made by contacting the library’s Children’s Department at 570-454-2961.

STEAM
In our STEAM program, children in grades 4-8 will experiment with different forms of science, technology, engineering, arts, and math with fun activities. The next STEAM program will take place on Monday, November 5th, from 6:00-7:00. This month students will be learning about the earth’s atmosphere and how it works by making terrariums. Registration begins on Monday, October 22nd and is required. Please contact the library’s Children’s Department at 570-454-2961 to sign up. Space is limited.

Teen Advisory Board
The Hazleton Area Public Library has some open spaces on our Teen Advisory Board. The board meets one Tuesday evening a month from 6:00-7:00. The board helps to plan future programs, brainstorm on how to reach out to the community, and give input on materials in the library’s Young Adult collection. Members will also have the opportunities to get volunteer hours. Board members must be high school students aged 14-18. Teens must complete an application in order to be considered for the board. Please contact the library’s Head of Youth Services, Mary Jordan, at 570-454-2961 to get an application, or for any questions.

Teen Time Gingerbread Houses
On Tuesday, November 27th, teens in grades 7-12 will create their own gingerbread houses and enter them into the library’s Gingerbread House competition! Teens can choose to build a house, cottage, castle, or whatever else you can imagine. Only gingerbread houses made during the program will be entered into the competition. Each teen’s unique creation will be on display to allow the public to vote for their favorite. The winner will be chosen on Tuesday, December 11th. The program goes from 6:00-7:00. Registration is required and can by made by contacting the library’s Children’s Department at 570-454-2961. Registration begins Monday, November 12th.

Sensory Storytime
On Saturday, November 17th, from 10:00-10:45, the library will hold a storytime that is designed to help children stay focused throughout the program. It is a great program for children with sensory processing disorders, autism, or other special needs. The materials are aimed at children aged 4-7, but ages may vary due to developmental delays. An adult MUST STAY with the child for the entire program. Registration is required and can be made by contacting the library's Children's Department at 570-454-2961. Registration begins Monday, November 5th.
